A Bed in Tozeur – Palm Beach Palace Tozeur Review

Spread the love

Magic Hotels have several properties in Tunisia and are expanding in other areas of North Africa all the time. Their most magical hotel, however, has to be the Palm Beach Palace Tozeur. Located in an oasis in South Tunisia, this is the perfect place to unwind and relax whilst soaking in the desert sun. Read on for our full Palm Beach Palace Tozeur review.

A Look Around Palm Beach Palace Tozeur

The Lobby

I would normally start with a look at our bedroom but there is no denying that your first impression of the hotel has to be discussed at the start of this post. This has to be the most remarkable hotel lobby we have ever walked into. Looking up you take in a small waterfall and garden above it. Soaring palm tree pillars propr up the atrium and sun streams through the huge skylight. It is an oasis indeed,

Our Bedroom

The large guest bedrooms are clean, airy and modern. On entering, running along the hallway are two double wardrobes and a large section for luggage storage. There was more than enough room and I would be amazed if anyone fills them. One of the wardrobes has an electric safe and laundry instructions.

Beyond this, the main bedroom opens up. The colour scheme is a luxurious blend of white and gold, with geometric patterns on the soft furnishing and elsewhere. There is a large desk/sideboard, on which is the all important tea and coffee station. Under the desk you find the fridge with a few soft drinks in. Up above there is a large wooden display with a mirror and TV, surrounded by really cool carved wooden lamps. This sort of light is also found above the bed. The designs echo the intricate brick designs of Tozeur.

There are three excellent places to relax. The bucket chair with accompanying coffee table, the delightful window-side chaise lounge. Finally, there is…

…The Bed

Our bed was wide and comfortable, with space for a third person if we needed. We each had a bedside table and an available plug. I love the rugs that surrounded the bed, meaning no chilly toes despite the tile flooring.

The Bathroom

The bathroom is split into two sections. There was a toilet with magnificent tiling directly next to the front door of the room, and a large bathroom with a bath and shower. It is always so nice to have the loo separately, meaning nobody has to worry about interrupting anyone else.

The mirror was directly over the sink which was tricky for my make up application but then I realised there was a magnifying mirror to the side, which was a saviour. The hair dryer was built into the wall but was actually quite powerful, a rarity for this kind of appliance. We got plenty of toiletries which were simple but much appreciated. I took some into the shower which is a over the bath set up. It was a nice, powerful hot shower, which I needed after a chilly dash back from the pool (more on the pool in a bit). If I’d had more time, I would have indulged in a bath but thought about it too late and had to get ready quickly for dinner.

Dining

Breakfast

The breakfast buffet was extensive. I am not normally that fussed about breakfast but couldn’t help indulging. Being run by the French for seventy years has one major benefit, the croissants are great! Oh, and the there whole station of baguettes went down very well to. My intrusive backpacker brain kept yelling me to try and smuggle one out to make a packed lunch, despite knowing we were returning to the hotel for lunch (Old habits die hard). There was a live cooking station wherre a constant supply of pancakes emerged, alongside the Tunisian bambalouni. This large, light ring-shaped doughnuts are traditionally served plain or covered with sugar but at breakfast, we could smear them with nutella….so good!

Buffet

The large buffet set up was full for lunch and dinner too. There were Tunisian pizzas, a strange but tasty variation of the travellers favourite, a selection of pastas and freshly grilled seafood. The live cooking station was whipping up goat liver which was delicious!. The salad bar was absolutely stocked with all kinds of fresh, pickled and perfectly cooked veggies.

A La Carte

My favourite dish had to be the Tunisian street food “Brik”. This is a fried parcel of filo-type pastry stuffed with a combination of mashed potato, tuna and a perfectly runny egg. It is traditionally a street food but they do a super version! Some other delicious dishes we tried indluded:

  • Slow cooked lamb that just fell off the bone. It was so juicy and tender, served with saffron rice.
  • Fresh salads. Tunisia loves its salads and it is so nice to have something crisp, crunchy and cold in the heat.
Drinks

The bar serves a decent range of drinks and even has a small cocktail list. Our travel companions all enjoyed the Palm Beach and Blue Lagoons but I found them a little sweet. The mojito however, was quite good. We enjoyed the Tunisian wine on offer, having a few glasses with dinner. The most unexpected and exciting tipples, however were the local spirits and liqueurs which were fun to try. The sweet, sticky date liqueur Thibarine was delicious and reminded ,me of all the weird and wonderful bottles at the top of any good bar.

The Pools

We visited Palm Beach Palace Tozeur in January 2024. This is well and truly off-season so we didn’t try the huge outdoor pool but can confirm that there is plenty of room for everyone as it took a while to walk around it! When the sun came out, it looked so inviting but it really hadn’t warmed up yet. It would be lovely to return in summer and spend a day relaxing out here.

Instead, we opted for the indoor pool, located in a large glass-fronted room overlooking the other pool. It was nice and warm inside, perfect on a chilly winter’s evening. Then, the water itself was heated beautifully. It wasn’t tepid or chilly like public British swimming pools. Instead, just warm enough to bob around not doing much, and not too hot to do a few lengths. We loved spending time here.

Next door is the spa. We didn’t have time to try it out but it looked lush!

Final Thoughts on Our Palm Beach Palace Tozeur Review

Palm Beach Palace Tozeur is an unexpected gem. The huge pool, incredible lobby and stylish rooms all add up to a hotel that is a destination in itself. It would be amazing to return in the summer and relax in the grounds for a whole luxurious day.
