Travelling from Perm to Moscow by train was technically the last leg of the official Trans-Siberian route. This was our final sleeper train, our final packet of dried noodles for dinner and it made total sense to end this huge adventure standing in the middle of Moscow’s Red Square….but we kept going after this. Before we get to that very last train, there are still 24 hours of slow train travel to enjoy.
There are some people who take the entirety of the Trans-Siberian from end to end in one week long adventure. Personally, I would suffer far too much from fear of missing out if I bypassed too many towns without stopping. Instead, we took our journey in steps and this leg was the longest one. Travelling from Irkutsk to Perm by train took two nights and one whole birthday. During our visit to Perm, Russia a small city that is a day’s train ride from Moscow, we enlisted the help of a tour company Evrasia Travel Bureau. They set up a day tour from Perm to GULAG Perm 36 and Kungur Ice Cave.

Hopping on and off the Trans-Siberian is one of the coolest ways to explore the vast country of Russia. To see as much as possible, it is worth planning ahead booking the odd day tour. During our winter trip in 2019, we decided to arrange a day trip from Perm tour with Evrasia Travel Bureau to visit Gulag 36 and Kungur Ice Cave.
